Make-Ahead Cranberry Fluff
Creamy cranberry fluff is a sweet holiday side dish filled with tart cranberries, juicy grapes, crunchy pecans, and fluffy whipped cream. A perfect make-ahead treat for potlucks, holiday meals, or cozy Sunday dinners.

Ever since I first introduced this authentic "Minnesota salad" to my family during the holidays, I've had so much fun testing out fruity fluff salads for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.
We've tried pistachio fluff and ambrosia and they were both huge hits. This creamy grape salad is always a winner.
So when Thanksgiving rolls around, you can bet this easy make-ahead cranberry fluff is what I'm serving up next!
You can prep the entire dish up to 3 days in advance, exactly the time-saving shortcut we all need during the holidays!
Why This is the Best Recipe
- Bright & Festive Flavor: Tart cranberries and juicy grapes mix perfectly with sweet cream and marshmallows.
- Side Dish or Dessert: How do you classify a sweet recipe like this? During the holidays, it works either way!
- No-Bake & Make-Ahead: This is the easiest holiday side dish—mix, chill, and you’re done ahead of time.
- Kid-Approved & Potluck-Ready: Sweet, fluffy, and colorful—it disappears fast at any special family event during the festive fall and winter seasons!
Ingredients
Just a few fridge and pantry staples come together to make this easy dish:
- Fresh Cranberries: I prefer to use fresh cranberries because they are a little less juicy than the frozen kind. If you don't mind your fluff being a darker pink color, frozen cranberries would work perfectly.
- Cream Cheese: I used a full-fat cream cheese. If you want to make the dish lighter, you could use a light cream cheese but it will affect the final texture and not be as creamy.
- Heavy Cream: Fresh whipped cream is what makes this recipe so delicious. However, if you need to save some time, you could substitute Cool Whip and omit both the heavy cream and cream cheese layer.
- Chopped Pecans: I had whole pecans halves on hand. I always break them into quarters by hand rather than chop them for a nicer texture. You could also buy pre-chopped pecans to save time.
- Mini Marshmallows
- Red Grapes
- Sugar
- Kosher Salt

Make Ahead Tips
Prep Ahead: You can make this sweet cranberry fluff up to 3 days in advance. Just keep it covered in the fridge.

Variations
- Nut-Free: You can skip the pecans if you need a nut-free dish to share.
- Citrus Twist: You could add chopped pineapple or mandarin oranges for a little more zest.
- Christmas Cranberry Fluff: If you want to use the colors of the season, substitute green grapes so you have a pretty red and green colored dish.

📖 Recipe
Cranberry Fluff
Ingredients
- 1 (12 oz) bag of fresh cranberries about 4 cups
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3 cups mini marshmallows
- 4 ounces cream cheese softened
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup red grapes halved
Instructions
- Add the fresh cranberries to the bowl of a food processor and finely chop them by pressing the PULSE button 6 - 8 times.
- Scrape the cranberries into a large mixing bowl and stir in the sugar. Add the marshmallows and stir. Cover the bowl and chill for at least 4 hours or up to 24 hours in advance. This lets the sugar soften the cranberry pieces and draws some of the juices out of the fruit to form a delicious syrup.
- After the cranberries have chilled, add the cream cheese to a separate mixing bowl. Beat it with a hand mixer until it is smooth and then pour in the heavy cream. Scrape the sides of the bowl and continue to beat with the mixer until the cream is whipped, thickened, and starts to form soft peaks that fall when you pull up the blades of the mixer.
- Scrape the whipped cream mixture into the bowl of cranberries and gently fold them together. Do not stir too hard, you want to keep the whipped cream nice and fluffy.
- Add the chopped grapes and pecans to the bowl and gently stir them in. Cover the bowl and chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
- This sweet fruity side dish can be prepped completely in advance up to 3 days before serving. Just keep it covered in the fridge so that the whipped cream doesn't dry out.
