Ingredients
1tbspvegetable oil
1 1/4poundsground turkey meat
1onionchopped
1tspsalt
1tsppepper
1cupketchup
3tbspcider vinegar
2tbspbrown sugar
2tbspWorcestershire sauce
1tspchili powder
1tspdried thyme
1tspgarlic salt
3/4tspdry mustard
4crusty sub rolls
8slicesAmerican cheese
Instructions
Place a large skillet over medium high heat and add the vegetable oil. Once the oil has warmed through, add the ground turkey, chopped onion, and salt and pepper. Cook the turkey, crumbling it with a spoon as it browns, until no longer pink and most of the liquid in the pan has evaporated and the meat is starting to sizzle.
Add the ketchup, cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and all the seasonings to the skillet and stir together. Bring to a simmer and cook for 3 more minutes to thicken.
Meanwhile, preheat the oven broiler. Slice the sub roll in half lengthwise leaving a connecting piece so they open like a book. Place them open face on a large broiler-safe baking sheet. Toast the buns until just golden, watch carefully or they will burn.
Lay the slices of cheese on the toasted buns, spoon the prepared turkey and sauce mixture over the cheese and return to the oven for 5 minutes for the buns to warm through and the cheese to melt. Serve immediately.
